Focus of 7th Grade Social Studies: Renaissance to Modern Times (World History Perspective)
My Expectations :
- Your student will be an active participant in class each day. Our pace will be quick since we have a lot of time periods in history to discuss this year.
- Most assignments will be completed in class. Your student should not have homework other than reviewing class notes.
- Students should demonstrate ROAR at all times.
- Students will have the opportunity to use and choose different assignment options in a variety of ways. History can be approached in many different ways. We will use all forms of media to approach Social Studies class in order to learn more about our world-- music, art, movies, books, current events...
- Notice of upcoming tests or quizzes will also be placed in agendas for reminders to study. A daily quiz would not necessarily be announced- it could be a progress check of learning.
- It is a great strategy to review notes/assignments completed in class each night. This helps in retention of information and preparation for quizzes and tests. This will also help prepare them for the future-High School!
- Social Studies will have the common exam at the end of the year. Quality work is a standard I expect of all of my students. Time invested shows good quality effort.
- We will work on current events this year and participate in discussions of key events. Encourage your student to read the newspaper, and watch the news with you.
- Reading in the content area is extremely important. Encourage your student to read anything they love. We will actively read all types of printed information this year- research articles, primary sources, maps, graphs, charts, or photo study.
- Grading Scale For Wilkes County Schools will be 100-90 A, 89-80 B, 79-70 C, 69-60 D, 59-50 F
- Watch Agendas for Extra Credit Opportunities. Your student will have a limited number of opportunities each nine weeks for this type of assignment.
- Grading: Tests, Projects, or Writing Assignments , 40% Daily Classwork, Homework, or, Map Skills 40%, Quiz 20%
- If a student wishes to retest on a low test grade, then the student will have to demonstrate to teacher that they have prepared for the retest before a retest is given. A student will demonstrate that they graphed test data on first test and wrote out the questions/correct answers they missed on the original test. This can be used as a study guide, in addition to other study materials. The student will need to make arrangements with me for a retest during after school tutoring session on Tuesday or Thursday afternoon.
- Any student who is missing assignments has 5 days to turn in the assignment with a 10 point penalty. After the 5 days have passed, the work will not be accepted.
- All daily classwork will be posted on the Wiki or Weebly page entitled THIS WEEK IN CLASS. If your student is absent, they can access work they missed on this page.
