What is Imperialism?
Taking over a weaker nation by a stronger nation in search of resources and markets.
Why did imperialism begin?
Industrialization--- wealthy European powers seeking raw materials/resources from lesser developed nations and new markets to sell these newly finished products.
Where did European Powers go???
- Africa and Asia continents were 2 major sources of resources
- What happened?
Most of the nations on the African continent were under the influence of a European power

Rudyard Kipling's: The White Man's Burden- slogan for imperialism, role of European powers to take their "superior"culture to "lessor" nations despite whatever resistance they would encounter.
Old Imperialism- begins with the Age of Exploration (1500's to 1800's)
New Imperialism- (1870-1914)
